Mr. Duncan will be competing in the primary for Illinois Congressional Seat 15.
About Mr. Duncan:
Darren Duncan is a seventh-generation farmer whose family began working the land in Vermilion County in 1820. Following successful treatment for colon cancer in 2003, Darren was introduced to Pastor Rick Warren’s book “The Purpose Driven Life.” In the book, Warren writes we were made for a life of service and we’re all called to use our personalities, abilities, and experiences to serve others. Darren took the message to heart. His local school district was struggling financially and had experienced declining enrollment. He was elected to two terms on the local school board where he fought to stop the district’s reliance on debt. After helping clean up the district’s finances, he was appointed, then elected, to the Vermilion County Board. He served two years on the county board standing up for taxpayers and working for investment in rural areas of the county.
Following the retirement of longtime County Treasurer Sue Stine in 2017, Darren decided to continue his dedication to service and was appointed fill her unexpired term and was elected to a full term in 2018. Since becoming Vermilion County Treasurer, he has streamlined the office to better serve taxpayers and to make distributions to local schools earlier than ever before.
Darren is now seeking to serve the men and women of the 15th Congressional District. As a conservative and a Christian dedicated to service, Darren hopes to bring his experience of fighting for taxpayers and the middle class to Washington.
Duncan is a lifelong resident of Vermilion County. He returned home to the family farm after graduating from Western Illinois University in Macomb. He is a member of the OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center Foundation Council, the Board of Directors of economic development agency Vermilion Advantage, Danville Kiwanis, Hoopeston Rotary, and was a founding member of the Central Illinois Land Bank.
Darren and wife, Natalie, have been married more than 23 years. Together they have three daughters and one son and live in Rossville.
