The Madison Patriot – A Newsletter for the Madison County Republican Central Committee

The 2021 Patriot Scramble Golf Tournament is around the corner, and the support we’ve received so far has been inspiring. From teams signing up to people purchasing sponsorships, an extraordinary amount of effort has been involved in planning this event. I would like to recognize Mark Achenbach for working so diligently over the last 18 months to pull together every detail.

As the first major county party event following the pandemic, the success of the golf scramble is of particular importance. It sets the tone leading to the November 2022 election. Time is running out to register a foursome or purchase a sponsorship for this important fundraiser.

The Patriot Scramble will take place at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course in Alton with a 1:30 p.m. shotgun start Friday, September 17. You can register on Facebook and learn more about the golf tournament at Please spread the word about the tournament among fellow conservatives, your neighbors, friends and family members. Let’s make this an opportunity to showcase our shared commitment to conservative values.

As always, I welcome your emails at [email protected] or your text or calls at 618-920-1700.

Five county elected officials each commit $1K to support 2021 Patriot Scramble Golf Tournament
Thanks to five- $1,000 sponsorships from county-wide elected officials, the 2021 Patriot Scramble Golf Tournament is shaping up to be a record-setting fundraiser.

The following individuals have each pledged $1,000 sponsorships: State’s Attorney Tom Haine, Treasurer Chris Slusser, Circuit Clerk Tom McRae, Regional Superintendent of Schools Rob Werden and Auditor David Michael, bringing $5,000 to the table.

“As county officials, we plan to do whatever we can to continue building the success the GOP has had over the past years,” said Haine. “Working together we will all be stronger in advancing conservative victories and demonstrating strong conservative leadership across our county.”

Slusser added, “We feel it is an honor to serve and part of that service is supporting the party’s efforts. The time to give isn’t just during an election. It’s important to give throughout the year.”

Haine noted, “Now is the time to hit the gas and build on our success. We need everyone to support in practical ways.”

Retired State Sen. Haine leaves the legacy of a statesman

Retired State Sen. Bill Haine, father of Republican Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine, died Monday, leaving an indelible mark as a statesman and a legacy of public service.

Known as a leader who worked across the aisle to serve in the best interest of the people in the Metro East, the senior Haine was a traditional family supporter.

According to a family statement released Monday, “He was to the end a man of deep and committed Faith in Jesus Christ, surrounded by the songs and prayers of his family, to whom he had offered every ounce of his care and devotion.”

In his last interview with the Riverbender, Sen. Haine said he and his wife of 50 years, Anna, worked hard to raise their seven children to have good values. In a Riverbender article published Monday, it was noted he said “he couldn’t be more proud of Tom Haine, the state’s attorney, and all his children.”

A public visitation will take place from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home, 1313 W. Delmar Ave., in Godfrey. The Knights of Columbus will provide an honor guard.
